Image of 1819 marriage records on Ancestry if you have access. Signature does look a bit similar to the 1826 record. but I'm no expert, what does anyone else think?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

This John Garlick was very difficult to trace.
There are about 4 or 5 John Garlicks in Hadfield, two are cotton spinners.
It took ages to separate the families.
But what i worked out is that my JG married Betty Lee in 1820 and had:
Mary 1821 & James 1823.
Then married Martha Ashton in 1826 and had:
John 1833, William 1835 & Thomas 1837.
To add to the confusion both Betty Lee and Martha Ashton had illegitimate children prior to marrying JG.
Finding them all in 1841 was a challenge.

The John Garlick signatures on the 1820 marriage and the 1826 marriage are exactly the same.

Unfortunately there is no signature on the 1824 banns register to compare it with to ascertain if the 1824 JG/MA are the same people as the 1826 JG/MA.
