This is looking good! So perhaps Miss Rainee is actually a Doherty (or similar spelling)

Any sign of a wedding record for John and Elizabeth? If it states John's father is also called Thomas we could be looking at a potential match.
The closest I could find was a Thomas Patterson who married Elizabeth Dougherty 15 Feb 1867  in Currin, Monaghan, Ireland. The fathers name was Thomas, so wondering if the Thomas who got married is actually John? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGZ1-P9R

I just wish Patterson wasn't such a common name as it makes things so much more tricky.

The only other possible marriage I have found is a John Patterson to a Mary Jane Dunlop in 1864, County Tyrone - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FG8P-8MC
This was based on John stating he was 70 years old and born in County Tyrone as part of the 1911 Census.
