Edward Tarlington's Will 1696
« on: Saturday 02 April 16 07:06 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping one of you can help with the names of Edward's parents & his brother.
His wife is Mary, & she is described as "my now wife" - is there any significance in the word "now"?
I'm trying to work out if this will was written just after Edward married Mary.
Many thanks for looking, now I just hope I've attached the detail okay! ;D Anne

I agree with Mo. That's what it looked like to me as well.

Unsure of what the 'now wife' indicates.

It may be a manner of speech indicating a person is married.

It may indicate a 2nd wife.

Thanks, Crowsfeet, it feels like that to me. I wasn't sure if it was a common term, as this is only the second Will that I've studied - most of my family were too poor to write wills!

Well, I'm getting there slowly, but quite a few words I have yet to make out! ::)
This bit is at the bottom of the page, in a different hand. Can anyone tell me what it says, please!

Lichfield, 10 July 1696
Let there be probate of this will, and administration of the goods of the testator, to Mary Tarlington, the sole executrix named in the same. Sworn before me <signed>

Thankyou so much, Bookbox!
Wish I'd paid more attention to my Latin teacher 50 years ago!
Now I know that Edward Tarlinton must have died sometime between  1694 when his Will was written, & 1696. A bit more of the puzzle in place!  :D Cheers, Anne
