William Whittaker
« on: Saturday 02 April 16 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with any of the following?

I have a William Whittaker leaving a detailed will in 1760 of Bromley, Kent. William owned land in Milford Haven, Pembroke, Chepstow, Monmouthshire, West Wickham, Kent, and also sugar plantations in Barbados.

William married on 20th October 1734 in Barbados a Loretta (Maria) Hannington and had issue what I can find of in England:

Ann 1741, Mary 1743, Loretta Maria 1744, Sarah 1745, William 1747 and another Sarah in 1750.

In his will he mentions his brother Henry Whittaker of Tewkesbury, Gloucester (he died in 1767 at Tewkesbury) and also a Henry Howke of Tewkesbury who was his brother in law having married his sister Ann Whittaker.

Cannot find any parents for William, Henry or Ann Whittaker?

The only other details in his will mentions land bought from Cornelius Gardiner in Chepstow, purchased for him under the extent of the crown by Henry Harding esq.

Loretta Maria Hannington who married William also had connections to Barbados as she was the daughter of a Samuel Hannington who had a plantation in Barbados by his second wife Mary Constable (nee Griffith).

Any help much appreciated! :)

According to records on ancestry the Whitaker family had been in Barbados prior to 1649, the will
of William Whitaker, wife Ann, son William and brother Jabez.

The second is also a will of John Whitaker wife Grace and an Ann Carrington mentioned this is 1659.

You know the property in Barbados is called White River Plantation in the parish of St Phillip and Henley Plantation in the parish of St John as of 1760, you can have a title deed search done. If it was handed down through the family there's your answer.
