TURNER John
« on: Saturday 02 April 16 21:03 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am a bit new to genealogy but have been putting my family tree together from work done by an uncle and cousin.  I ma doing fairly well so far and use ancestry.co.uk.  However, I am stuck on a few branches of the tree.

Nearly all of my family come from North Essex for the last 600 years.

I'm stuck on tracing back the TURNER line.  Does anyone have any information or advice on a John Turner who is the father of a Charles Turner (born probably 1813 in Thaxted).  The christening record for Charles mentions the wife of John Turner as Sarah.  I imagine that John Turner would be from the Thaxted area or somewhere within a 12-mile radius of there.

Any ideas?

- Jas

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.
The baptism record for Charles Turner gives the mother as Lucy.
John Turner married Lucy Peary in Thaxted on 15th July 1801.
By banns and both single, witnesses were Lawrence Wills and  John Threeman.

Charles Turner of John and Lucy was born 11 May 1814 baptized 5 June 1814 at Thaxted.

Possible: John Turner baptized 3 October 1780 of William and Mary Turner at Thaxted.

Just in case the following are of any use to you.

John Turner baptised 8 Oct 1780 in Thaxted, he is one of ten children I have listed for William and Mary baptised at Thaxted 1775 to 1793.

A William Turner married Mary Freeman 22 Jun 1774 at Thaxted.

The above families are not, as far as I know, related to my Turners but I noted them in passing whilst looking for mine.

There were quite a few Turners baptised in the 1700s in both Lindsell and Elsenham.

Regards.
Concentrating currently on:
Essex: Card, Harris, Stowell, Theobald/Tibbles & Turner.
Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?
