Parish record for Axminster 1764?
« on: Monday 04 April 16 23:22 BST (UK) »
I have a marriage indexed as Thomas Legerwood and Grace Collier 31 May 1764 Axminster, Devon. I am wondering if there is any image available of a parish register? Sometimes you get lucky with profession and witnesses. There is no image available on Find My Past for Devon Marriages.

Thank you.

Thank you for reply and advice. Just wondering if anyone has access to look up within Devon, firstly? If not too cheeky :-[

Very few of Devon's Parish Registers are available online ::)

So, you'll have to visit:
Devon Record Office (http://www.devon.gov.uk/parish_register_list)
West Country Studies Library (http://www.devon.gov.uk/devonandcornwallrecordsociety-2.htm)
Devon Family History Society(http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/parishbooks.htm)

But I don't think you'll find witnesses on marriages that far back?

Images of Axminster registers are available online to members of the Devon FHS which has registers from some 50 parishes available. In addition, as it is an indexed marriage by the DFHS, they will supply (for a nominal amount) an image from the register. See http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/shop/parish_register.php

Thank you to all who have kindly replied.  Thank you to my secret source :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*  I think that they are most likely to be my couple who moved to London by 1765.  Thomas was indeed a mariner.
