There is a register of army marriages overseas.

Try searching for military BMD  overseas, I suggest.

The indexes of Armed Forces Marriages and Marriages Overseas are on FindMyPast. Unfortunately there is nothing listed for this couple. I wondered if they married in Ireland as their first child was born there but I haven't found anything.

Edit : One census says born Ireland and one says Corfu - not very helpful !

I would go for Corfu. It is not a place the enumerator could invent. And they are in the Ionian Islands which could be misread as Ireland.

Could be #2763 Colour Sergeant Charles Winter, born Birmingham c1830, served 21 years in the 9th Foot -  including time in Crimea, Canada and Corfu. Discharged August 1868. Intended residence - Liverpool.

I think we have him -  in the 1871 census living in Lancashire as a Staff Sergt in the 5th Royal Lancashire Militia. The Militia were part-time soldiers who served 2-3 months a year for six years. Staff Sergeants were part of the permenant staff.

Ancestry have miss transcribed 'Lancs' as Heave, and Ann J as Ann P. Includes two younger daughters born in Gibraltar and Pembroke Dock - where he was discharged.

Ken - you are showing your skills again!

If the timing fits, he may have met and married Ann when he was stationed in Canada.

His army record says he was born in Borsley, Birmingham. This is probably Bordesley. The pages also gives his age on enlistment as 17 and 11 months. So you have his birthday down to a two month window.

You need to post a new question on the Warwickshire section. Someone may have the local parish records. Failing that try the beginners section on help with something like that IGI.
