Looking for parents of Thomas Kersey and Mary Gissing
« on: Friday 15 April 16 23:59 BST (UK) »
Thomas Kersey was a farmer in Framlingham. Born Wickham Skeith, Suffolk 1762.  He married Mary Gissing of Cotton, Suffolk 27 Jul 1785 when Mary was 20. Her parents names were Robert Gissing and Mary Watson. Any help with dates etc for parents of either, would be great.

From a thread of 2010 it appears that Thomas was a dissenter as at least one of their children was baptised at home.
Hepzibah said 'There are several by the Kersey name baptised by the ministers at the Meeting Place of Protestant Dissenters in Framlingham, Suffolk. The place is now known as the Unitarian Meeting House, Bridge Street Framlingham. Framlingham, where the original congregation were Presbyterians, Independents and Baptists, is about 4 mls from Debenham'.'Samuel s of Thomas Kersey of Framlingham, Farmer, & Mary Gissing his wife b April 4 1790 & bap at their house Sep 19 1791'

Burt, Cockrill, Craske, Debenham, Double, Grimwade, Grimwood, Hilder, Mayhew, Ray. All from  West Suffolk around the Bury St. Edmunds area.
Simpson, Pittendreigh, Arthur.   Aberdeenshire

The Unitarian Church hosts all sorts of events and is often open to the public, it is a beautiful building and well worth a visit. There are headstones in the small yard at the back of the church and it is possible to view them.

Sorry for being so quiet, had a big birthday celebration and family visiting - just getting the house back (although still climbing over things to get to my PC)  ::)

Any connections to Mayhew in Coddenham?

SM ...

Thanks for that SM. Must try to get to the Fram area again soon! By the way, just been to the Recorders meeting at Bungay with J & G. R. Thanks for that contact. Got another at Elmswell next week.

The original posting pre-dates the Brexit referendum, but in case the conundrum remains to be solved ...

1761 Robert Gissing (aged 23) married Mary Smith at Mendlesham

1766 Mary daughter of Robert & Mary Gissing was received into the church at Wetheringsett cum Brockford aged 1 year & 9 months on 21 Sept. (same day as brother Samuel's baptism)

1768 Robert Gissing of Wetheringsett was buried at Mendlesham

1778 widow Mary Gissing of Mendlesham married Thomas Watson at Cotton

Thanks for this helpful research from gobbitt and Dulverton. Only just come across the postings, so apologies for not thanking you earlier. It has helped me open up a whole new line of ancestors.
