Missing house number
« on: Tuesday 19 April 16 20:33 BST (UK) »
I was born in Henlow Beds in 1938. My birth certificate gives the address as "St Osyth" High Street Henlow. I believe that the name was used as memory of my parent's honeymoon in that Essex resort! I would love to know what the number of the dwelling was in High Street..I moved to Letchworth Hertfordshire when I was three years old so was not of an enquiring age. Can anyone help on this search?

Might be worth contacting the local council to see when the road was numbered, and if they can help?

Some properties do not have a number,  only a name.

Knew I'd seen this query before somewhere!

The 1939 register at http://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register is the place to start

Trouble is you cannot address search by village/parish.... you have to use a district...assume Henlow is in Biggleswade R D.... wonder how many villages have a 'High Street' ?

The Biggleswade Chronicle via GenesReunited has many mentions of High St Henlow in the 30s including house names and numbers; births and deaths; and building plans - you can search and view previews but full articles are by subscription.

If you "drive" up and down High St in Google Street View, there are not many places that fit the description of 1930s brick bungalow (assuming this means detached/single story??) . I'm going to put my money on the one opposite Old Barn Close which I think is No. 88
