1871 Census Look Up - Leah FOY
« on: Wednesday 27 April 16 05:50 BST (UK) »
Afternoon everyone,

I am trying to find out where Leah and her family were in the 1871 Census , probably at Kingston on Thames in Surrey?.  Leah was born in Sussex c 1843 and the 1861 Census shows her  as Leah GREEN with her mother Mary (a widow) living in Brighton.

1881 she is living in Paragon Road, Kingston on Thames as Leah FOY with mother Mary Green and her daughter Constance L (for Lillian) Foy aged 12 yrs and Constance was born in Marylebone, Middlesex.

1891 Leah and husband HENRY FOY (45 yrs - was a servant/groom/coachman) born London and the family living at the Victoria Road (stables) Kingston Surrey. Mary no longer at this census, but Constance is aged 22 and a dressmaker.

Leah Green and Henry Foy married at St Anne's Church, Wandsworth, in 1867.

Would really like to find out where the family were in 1871 (if of course that particular census is not missing from Surrey).

Many thanks.

Webby :)

There's a baptism in Surbiton in July 1871 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NY44-D4D

Address given at the baptism which took place at St Mark, Surbiton is  ?ilbert Yard, Stanhope Street, London, Henry is a Coachman.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi, many thanks for the information given on Leah and her family.

I will have a look at the area of Surbiton as opposed to Kingston on Thames.  I'm assuming that they will be pretty close together?

Were there any missing documentation for the 1871 census from Surrey?

I'm still pretty sure that the family would have been in and around this area at that time.

Will keep on looking :)

If it's the same Stanhope Street in London, then it is located in North London - Kings Cross area.

?ilbert Yard

Looking at the register page, I read the address as 1 Albert Yard.

But they are not at that address in the 1871 census (RG10/201 folio 72 page 51)

Hi, again many thanks to you all in helping with my query regarding Leah Foy nee Green and her family.

Will try and find on Ancestry once again this 1871 Census now with the addition of the registered number and folio etc.  Also thanks with the families correct census addresses'.

A bit hard to work out where Surbiton was in relation to Kingston on Thames etc and whether they were both in Surrey or in the London area....living as I do on the other side of the world!!.

Kind regards

Webby - just type Surbiton or Kingston upon Thames into Google and you will find the locations, including maps.  Google Maps will be even more helpful.
