Percy Charles Edward Westmoreland WW1
« on: Wednesday 27 April 16 08:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,
A lady asked me for help finding her Grandfather's WW1 Records, he apparently put his age up to enlist in WW1, and put his age down to enlist again in WW2.
Place of birth London in 1903, his Father was Joshua Watson Westmoreland, I can see records for his brother John Frederick in WW1 but not him. I wonder if he enlisted under a different name.
His Grand Daughter has two sets of medals, supposedly from each war.

Here is his Baptism:

Name:    Percy Charles Edward Westmoreland
Record Type:    Baptism
Baptism Date:    7 Jan 1903
Father's name:    Joshua Watson Westmoreland
Mother's name:    Elizabeth Mary Anne Westmoreland
Parish or Poor Law Union:    Lewisham St Mary
Borough:    Lewisham
Register Type:    Parish Registers

There is a Family Tree up on Ancestry, - but perhaps that is yours? I can also see him on the London School Admissions Register and the 1911 Census. Are you sure he was Army? The Naval Record looks the most likely.

Romilly.

Percy's brother,John Frederick WESTMORELAND enlisted in the Australian WW1 forces as you have mentioned, in 1916.

In 1931, parents of the two men, Joshua Watson and Elizabeth (nee BETTS) WESTMORELAND registered to vote living at 22Selbourne Street Kooyong.

Percy and his partner/wife also lived at  15 Selbourne St Kooyong
The parents died in Victoria, as did Percy, Phyllis and a son (to 1985)
Do you need these details?

Sue

Thanks everyone, it was his earlier war records that the family couldn't find, not helped by his Grand Daughter having no internet. They have a family tree as far back as Percy's parents, if she wants to find out more I can help her.
She has two sets of medals for him so one lot must be English from his earlier service.

The medal rolls show that he was awarded the Silver War Badge issued in the United Kingdom to service personnel who had been honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness during World War I.

Is that it?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_War_Badge

If your friend purchases a copy of his WW2 record it should detail any previous service.
