Looks like my Thomas Alfred hodson was born 26 July 1877 the same day as the thomas Alfred hodson who was born in stalybridge to thomas and Emma. but my thomas was born in mossley but baptised in hargrave to Edward thomas and Emma hodson in 1879

Are you saying that the Thomas you are researching is Thomas Alfred Hodson and are you checking that he is the same one who is in 1911?
It's a bit confusing.

Do you have your Thomas Alfred in any other censuses or records?

I can only see one birth- registered Ashton which covers Mossley and Stalybridge.

Re the baptisms- perhaps he was baptised in Stalybridge, then also when the family returned home.

Only one registration of Thomas Alfred Hodson in 1877 = Ashton (under Lyne) which, from 1894 also covered Mossley and Stalybridge.

I suggest that you purchase the birth certificate to confirm the exact place of birth, and the parents.

IMHO the two baptisms are for the same Thomas Alfred Hodson born 26 July 1877, the first in a Primitive Methodist Chapel in Stalybridge with residence given as Mossley, and the second in an Anglican church in Hargrave with residence given as Hargrave, albeit to supposedly different fathers.

1881 Census - RG11/1383 folio 81,page 43
29 Markfield Street, Tottenham

Edward T Hodson - 25, Boot Riveter, born Hargrave
Emma- 26 - born Huntingdon
Thomas A - 3, born Mossley
James G - 2, born Hargrave
Florence E - 1 month, born Tottenham

James Gifford Hodson baptised the same day at Hargrave as Thomas Arthur - born 30 January 1879

Marriage Registration - December 1876 - Ashton

Edward Thomas Hodson and Emma Gifford appear on the same page.

Added:  Civil marriage or Registrar attended

John Hodson married Jane Gifford, also in 1876 - March quarter in Ashton Registration District.  Again civil marriage etc.
