Merging two files on Rootsmagic
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 15:25 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I have just bought Rootsmagic after using FTM 2005 for many years. Please could someone tell me how I can merge two family files I have imported into Rootsmagic?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Diana
Rootsmagic have a YouTube page called RootsMagicTV, all sorts of useful videos on using their system, also there is a Rootsmagic forum site where you can ask the question, I'm sure you will find the answer on one or the other.

Many thanks Donnie for the info. I have just discovered today that they have a RM users Facebook page too so I shall try them.

Cheers

I'm on RootsMagic4, but the technique should be the same.

One of your FTM trees should be in GEDCOM format.

First create a new tree by importing from the FTM file.
Then import the GEDCOM file (File, Import) and select "Combine into the database".

Finally, run a Merge (Tools, Merge).
I would run a Duplicate Search Merge first, followed by an Automatic Merge, SmartMerge option.

Hi KGarrad

Many thanks for the advice. That sounds very straight forward. I shall give it a go and let you know how I get on.

Kind regards

Diana
