World War Two Nominal Roll website: place code decoding please?
« on: Monday 09 May 16 02:50 BST (UK) »
Hello.

I have found this record from my grandfather on the WWII Nominal Roll website:
http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=R&veteranId=858711

but I do not know what the Posting at Discharge  = EAHQR code means.

I am sure it should be obvious, but I can not 'get' it. East Australian Head Quarter Regiment??? See, I am just making things up!

Thanks, Tracey

Hi,

Being in the RAAF the unit might have been Eastern Area Head Quarters RAAF.  This Unit was established in May 1942 and was located in Sydney.

I am confident that Gerry's right.

Eastern Area Command moved to Glenbrook around 1949  :)  perhaps from Edgecliffe  :-\

Cheers,  JM

The National Archives has 1105 pages of the Eastern Area Headquarters 1942-1945 Unit History and can be found under NAA. Series, A9186, Control Symbol, 175,.

You may wish to look through these pages to see if WO Hill get a mention.  Maybe start at December 1945 and work backwards if your keen enough.
