Thanks Annie,
I've been so careful with all of the Josephs and mixed up their spouses with mothers. Thanks for the reminder. I am now entering the data directly into my Wikitree file as soon as I have checked them.

Hi
I can't see a baptism or a marriage for John Baxter in Cossington. I have had a quick look at Rothley PR for about that time and there is a couple John & Catharine Baxter having children I think it was from 1755 and I can't see a John but they do have a Joseph. I will look later today in more detail. I did notice this in Rothley PR baptism for an Elizabeth Hughs 18 Feb 1750 parents William & Sarah and her brother Thomas Hewes 30 Dec 1748

Hope these help

Thanks Jomot and Bunnygirl,

I have seen removal orders before but am unfamiliar with a settlement order. I presume both indicate people living on the parish. The John and Catherine look promising. Lots to look into.

Thought you were away on Holiday Diddy. I was just on Googlemaps trying to get all of the locations clear in my mind. I had a similar problem in Cornwall with my Trewin ancestors. They lived nearer to the parish church in the adjoining parish than to their own parish church, then as they became dissenters, records for marriage and baptism were made in either of the two churches seemingly at random.

I just realized that my wife and I stayed in Rothley (at the Rothley Court Hotel) and drove through Cossington and the area while on holiday a few years ago without knowing that a branch of my family were from the area. I now have a better mental image of the proximities of the relevant parishes and Leicester.

Well this is confusing Bunnygirl and Carol,
We already have a marriage record for John and Elizabeth (from Carol):

"John Baxter & Elizabeth Warren 2 Sept 1781 at Barkby, Leicestershire (about 3 miles from Cossington)"

and now we have another for the same month and year in Coleorton. Could this be a record of banns being read and refer to the same marriage?

And now one for Sapcote as well for 1778. I imagine John and Elizabeth were among the most common of names.

The marriage at Coleorton was a different date 30 Nov 1778 saying he was of Sapcote.   Thats how I read it anyway
