Who were Eveline Price's parents?
« on: Friday 27 May 16 14:12 BST (UK) »
Eveline Price was baptised 24 Jul 1871 at BRYMBO Denbigshire and the transcript has her parents as Owen Price and Mary.  Owen[?]is a mining engineer of Moss.

The attached is a clipping and I wonder if you concur her father is 'Owen'?

Secondly I am looking for her parents marriage most likely before July 1871 without success.

I seem to be going round in circles and decided to seek assistance ;D

I would imagine they were married long before 1871 if this is the family

1871  - very faint image
Broughton , Denbighshire (ecclesiastical parish Brymbo)
Owen Price 36 miner bn Yorkshire
Mary 38 bn Lancashire
Alfred 11
John 10
Arthur? 9
Emily 8
Ann 7
William 5
?  3   (indexed Thomas)
? 2    (indexed Geo Oswald)
Harriet 11mths

One a year! Then Eveline a few months later!

1881 does confirm thisis the family, although Eveline is recorded as being aged 4 on that census. Either the first Eveline  (chr 1871) died and they had another, or the age is incorrect on 1881

Have you found her on the 1881 census with those parents?

1861
Broughton, Brymbo

Owen Price 26 land and mine surveyor bn Crewe Cheshire
Mary 28 bn Astley Lancashire
Alfred 1  bn Denbighshire
John 6 mths  "
Rachael Partington 72 widow Mother in law bn Lancashire Astley

So a marriage around 1859ish looks more likely, with MAry possibly nee Partington!

Possible marriage Sep 1857 Leigh

Owen Price
Mary Partington

Leigh covers Astley and that looks to be the birthplace for Mary in the 1891 - if I have the right census.

Ummmm; not sure that is the correct family.   ???

The baptism seems to say that Eveline's father was a Mining Engineer.  I did locate that census record and yes it is terribly faint but I don't think it is the correct family.

Eveline died aged 91 a spinster in Wexham and left a Will.  "PRICE Eveline Richardson of Upbeyond, Symonds Yat, Whitchurch, Herefordshire spinster, died 14 January 1963 at The General Hospital, Monmouth. Probate Bodmin 8 April to Lloyds Bank Limited and Annie Grace Price spinster. Effects £7093 0s 3d"

The Executor is connected with the family of Charles Sturve Price and they were a family of some financial standing and at one point all the family were Quakers.  Charles Sturve Price was a Quaker when he died in Australia as were his daughters.

It is the fact that the family had reasonable finances that it seems to me a miner may not be appropriate but it is simply a best guess at this time.

I haven't been able to find the family in the Census records as yet and in part that is because I am not sure of Eveline's fathers forename.

It seems to 'fit' together.

Will check it out.

I have no doubts.

Owen is a land and mining surveyor in 1881

1871 is very unclear and faint. I think "miner" was my best guess, but it could well be something else linked to mining! I will have another look.

This is the only Owen and Mary Price family in Brymbo around 1871 - and they seem to have a daughter called Eveline!
