Yes... same place.... Hawnes was original spelling,  Haynes is what it is now

Makes sense, thanks!

Thanks, that helps! I had already assumed it was these people, but I'm now going to be able to put it in my tree. Jane Bates, their daughter, and her husband had their first child in Old Warden - hadn't discovered her until last weekend but I'm pretty pleased that I found her. And this discovery helps fill in quite a few blanks.

As it stands it's only a probability that the Jane Bates who was baptised in Northill is the Jane Bates who married in Haynes. Firm evidence is still needed,

Yes circumstantial evidence, very probable but proof will have to be found on my future trip to Bedfordshire...

No I don't, but I guess those would be hard to come by via the internet? There are no scans, as far as I know?

Not everything can be done on the internet.

There are no scans of Bedfordshire parish registers on the internet. John and I generally work from the transcripts  of the parish registers available to purchase from Beds FHS, but unfortunately these don't include marriage witnesses. Freereg also don't appear to transcribe marriage witnesses either. For that detail you need to view the parish register microfilm, available at Bedford Archives who also run a research service (reasonably priced) for people like us who live across the Channel, or you can order and view the microfilm from your nearest LDS Family History Centre of which there are many in France. The three options are therefore, in increasing cost order:
 - pay the Archives, less than a tenner, to research for you
- drive to your LDS FHC and pay the few euros to hire the microfilm
- fly to England and get to Bedford to view the microfilm

The witnesses may be the only evidence linking Jane to Northill.
