Seeking Help/Info on Birth Mother - (*) Phillips
« on: Saturday 04 June 16 12:29 BST (UK) »
Seeking assistance with research into birth mother - name possibly changed but not known for certain.

(*) Phillips
Born circa 1933
(Auburn hair & grey eyes)
Occupation given on adoption records as 'Gowns Sales-lady

She was the birth mother of a friend whom I am assisting with research - friend's name Laurence Phillips (b. 1952 London).

Information from the 'Church Adoption Society' as follows:

Mother and baby home: 32 Macaulay Road, Clapham, London

Forwarding address info submitted to adoption society as being, 214 Brecknock Road, Tufnell Park, London NW

She may have had connections with the US Navy HQ in London.

This is as much information as we have at the present time; any help/advice as to what may have become of her, greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter

RootsChat is meant for finding ancestors, rather than living relatives.

Personal details of any people known or thought to be living will be removed, in accordance with RootsChat policy, to avoid spamming and other abuses. So people here will be able to give you general tips and hints how to proceed, but not any concrete details.

You will also find more tips here:

Topic: Tracing Living Relatives

and

At this stage, the best way forward is for your friend to register their name on the GRO adoption contact register here

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

or here

http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/default.htm

or here

http://www.missing-you.net/categories/adoptions.php

in the hope that his birth mother too has registered to find him.

I had a look at the electoral registers for 1951 and 1953 (1952 isn't online) but there isn't a Phillips family at #214, although she would be too young to appear until 1954.

I also had a look at the bmd's but there are too many with her name to know which ones she could be.

Apologies for any transgression of the rules - completely unintentional.

Thank you for the links you have provided.

Hi Peter

I wish your friend good luck with his search, it isn't easy.

I obviously don't know if there is a family link to the people on the electoral registers in 1951 and 1953 as they don't have the same surname or if she was lodging there.

Although she will be redacted, it might be worth looking for possible families on the 1939 register?
