There is this tree with Edwin Werren Hughes, don't know if related.  Do you have his parents?

There is a 23 year old Edwin Hughes b Worcester in the 1881 census living with a Sara, probably his wife, plus a four year old son Edwin. They are in the household of Sara's widowed mother Sophia Bond. I wouldn't have looked at this except that this Edwin is a plasterer.

Added:
Edwin Hughes married Sarah J Bond Sept 1/4 1874.

I wonder if this is 'your' Edwin, though it may not be as this doesn't seem to tie in with the Edward in 1911, unless there is an Edwin as well as an Edward? :-\

Added: The same family group plus mother in law are still together in 1891 ... so the wrong Edwin.

That family group can be found on the 1871 census in Worcester. Mother's name is down as Susannah.

I would like to know where "Werren" comes from.  :)

Obviously mistranscription, 1861 has mother Rosanna, not checked 1871, curious though, does not seem to be baptised with the middle name.

Hi Cas, thanks for the welcome as well!

I have spent ages looking through the Pollendine.co.uk tree that you mentioned and I presumed that Edwin Hughes is the same person that I am looking for, however I can't find the link by marriage to Ida (Reynolds, or whoever she is). Plus I didn't understand why, if it was the same person, he changed his name to Werren when he was nearly 40.

Worcester Journal 14 Jul 1894:

Edwin Hughes , plasterer , of Newtown , summoned for deserting his wife Sarah Jane. Complainant stated married for 20 years , 2 children boy 18 , girl 12 who was nearly blind. Couple were under 17 when married. Ordered to pay maintenance and costs.

Edwin Werren was a plasterer and the above might explain the change of name and move to Shropshire and Staffs.

Interesting CB53.

So might it be that he was a bigamist, or leading a double life? Looking at the births of the children he had with Ida, two were born before this newspaper article was published.

So my reply #10 may need amending. Maybe it is the right Edwin with Sarah in 1891.  :)

I thought this odd:

Great find CB53....guess that's why no marriage, or unable to find, he was already married.

It also explains why the 'other' Edward/Edwin Werren/Hughes seems to be missing from the 1891 census. He is with Sarah and her mother! Not with Ida!
