Hi  Pat,  His style of tie should be one clue. Waiting to see what Jim and China say. He looks Irish doesn't he? A subtle colouring from me.  :)   , Tommy

Tommy, that is lovely, I love the colouring.
I see what you mean about looking Irish, but the family were all farmers from Westmorland and Lancashire. I have no knowledge of any Irish blood.

He's dressed typically 1870's. The cardstock is also from this decade but it would help if we could see all of it.

Jim many thanks, this is exactly what the card looks like, almost as if it has been cut off at the bottom but it is a very straight edge it doesn't look as if it has actually been cut. There is a very slight mark up the sides on the photo defining its width and there is a definite gilt edge to the right hand side and possibly on the other edges.

Wiggy, I hadn't really noticed before, but his eyes are intense aren't they. He possibly could be my great granddad born 1826, I know these photos are from my mothers side of the family but she was 'adopted' as a baby, so I don.t know if they are from her birth family, or her adoptive family. I guess I shall never know.
