Baptisms
« on: Thursday 30 June 16 13:41 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help?

I have the baptism of my gt grandfather Henry Leonard Graham, from St Annes Lewes for 1869.  It only gives details of child's name, parents names, abode, and Trade.  There is no information about sponsors etc.  Will there be any other information anywhere else that will give me more details about this baptism.  With christening records it seems that there is a lot more information given.  Is this just because it is a baptism as opposed to a christening.

Also under the Abode column  it has 'not known' yet all the other baptisms on the record have that column filled in e.g St Annes Parish.    Does this mean that the parents of Henry we're strangers to the parish.

I am confused !

Diane

The birth certificate (£9.25 from GRO) will contain more information.

I don't think C of E baptisms show any sponsors at all?
Certainly, I have only seen these on Catholic Registers.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

If I've got it right, and St Anne's in Lewes is an Anglican church, then there will be no further information relating to the baptism, unless the minister chose to add his own "notes".  It wouldn't be normal practice to name the god-parents.

As KG says, the birth certificate will show a little more information, with mother's maiden name, and an address.  However, I can't readily see a birth registration for Henry Leonard Graham during the period January 1865-December 1870 anywhere in England and Wales (FreeBMD).
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is a Leonard Henry Graham registered in September quarter 1860 in Brighton Registration District.

Thanks everyone.  I do have the birth cert but unfortunately it isn't much help.  I just thought I would glean a bit more info from baptism.

Hi Diane

What exactly are you trying to establish that the birth cert and baptism don't show about his parentage?
