Hi all, would love to find the ww1 regiment of my great uncle Joseph Wood, this is the only picture i have with him in. He was born in Frome in 1892,then moved to Burnham on Sea later on . With knowing the uniform might help me find his military records.Regards Scott Wood

The ammo pouches indicate a mounted Regt.
Can't quite make out the shoulder title but possibly RFA.

I notice, (I think) the shoulder title has a name under it, could be RFA as jim1 says, wonder if it's a territorial unit  :-\

It could be something along these lines, though not the same area name

I don't think RFA looking again as this style was the preserve of the Territorials which had a T above. This doesn't.

Although still in use in WW1 this lanyard looks quite decorative unlike the white rope style worn by RE RA etc.
I'm know thinking Hussars with the numeric over the name.
Why couldn't these lads have kept their caps on.

Good evening,

I think Jim is correct to say not territorial as the "T" is always above sometimes with a no above that.

What we can see is one straight line of letters over a curved line of letters with something in the middle. That could be a no or an abbreviation such as "&".

Not only mounted units wore bandoliers, some infantry had them as well.

The braided landyard was normally for parade dress rather than the front line. The RA used them at one time.

Hi, the Duke of Wellingtons looks a possibility.

If you have Ancestry you can try searching the WW1 service records and pension records using the man and women. They have indexed the next of kin.

I too thought maybe Duke of Wellington but the lettering looks to be about 6-8 lower & 4-6 upper that's why I thought possibly numeric but Devon & Dorset looks possible.

But would an Infantryman other than an Officer or NCO wear a lanyard ?
We need the poster to tell us if he survived the war.
