I know for a fact that on SA birth registrations for some illegitimate children the father's surname if known was part of the child's full name.

With Buckley included in the names of children before the BUCKLEY marriage it appears to me that Rosanna had clearly separated from John BRUNI. Rosanna was still legally named BRUNI until she remarried.
