It's more usual for the bride to have more than 1 name! ;D
That's when she is divorced or widowed, and both married name and maiden name are on the certificate.

It's unusual for a man to have 2 names, but not unheard of.
Adopted surname and original surname, perhaps?
Maybe mother remarried and he's using step-father's surname as well as his birth surname?

Thank you all, I thought I was going mad, especially if you look at the entry on the 1939 Register which totally threw me if you add the husband's surnames.  Thank you again for all your input, brilliant work.  ;D

Yes, I've seen registers where the bride has been widowed/divorced and shows both surnames.
