COMPLETE - 1841 Census Hull - Lockwood - lookup please
« on: Friday 22 July 05 09:29 BST (UK) »
I'd be very grateful if someone would check Humber St, Hull in 1841 - could be either 3 or 33 Humber St.

I am hoping to find Thomas and Caroline Lockwood, and anyone else in the household - if I am very lucky, Edward and Mary Martin.  It is possible that Thomas was dead by then (we haven't found his death yet) but Caroline was definitely still alive.

I have recently discovered that Thomas Lockwood was born in Easingwold, North Riding - but he was very definitely living in Hull at this time.

I'm really desperate to find them as we have a few mysteries about Thomas - including that he may have been a bigamist!!

Thank you very much!

Hi Marie

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.  I am doing a bit of housekeeping work on this board and wondered if you have made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Ticker,

And thanks for your post.  No, I have made no progress on this one, and it is very frustrating!  I still do not have a death date for Thomas Lockwood, nor any hint of his bigamous (?) marriage to Caroline - I have another marriage which is almost certainly him.

I am sure that, with the details I have given, if anyone had the 1841 for Hull, they could look up these Lockwoods.  That was what I was hoping for.  It seems if you have an address, a census can be searched.  Rootschatters certainly found someone in 1841 London for me, with similar details given.

To find this census entry would at least establish whether Thomas Lockwood was alive or dead then, and possibly give the location of other family members.

Brilliant!  Thank you, Edmund, these are two of my people!   ;D ;D ;D

Two more questions, if I may:

1.  Is it clear what "independant" means?  Does it seem to mean "of independent means"??

2.  Would you mind having a look if there are any Martins in Humber St?  I haven't been able to find Caroline's married daughter Mary and her husband Edward Martin in London (where they spent most of their lives), and it is possible they were living near her mother Caroline, who was probably in poor health - she died the year after the census.

Thank you very much!!!!  ;D ;D

Ey up,

Aye it would mean of independant means - supporting herself .

Cannot see any Martins anywhere in Humber Street though .  :(

Nick.
