Thank you so much everyone for your help. I have found a birth for Joseph GREEN on 31st January 1808 but it is at Leyton, Essex. Is that a long way from Halstead?. Will check out all the information you have supplied and thanks once again.

Unless he wasn't baptised as a baby, that one seems a bit late, it's also too far I think, as he is consistent about his place of birth.

On Freereg, there is a Joseph Green baptised in Halstead in 1805 to a Thomas and Rebecca. Maybe this is him, taken to the nearest big town to be done.
