Yes I know, thank you for your reply.   I was unearthing old documents belonging to my Uncle and came across this, just needed to confirm whether or not this was authentic.     Living his dream I would say, it all seemed very strange to me.

Might it be worth tracking down his actual death registration and his emigration to Queensland, the latter which if before his joining the church should show his 'actual' rather than assumed name.

Is it also possible that his surname was Earl and he came from Balcombe?

An age at death would help search parish records for baptisms of Earls in Balcombe.
