cemetery records
« on: Thursday 14 July 16 23:02 BST (UK) »
hi all, I've been researching my mums side of the family tree, and have found out most of her grandparent's family are buried in St. Patrick's cemetery in new Stevenson, Lanarkshire. However, today I found out that two of the names I found are not buried there. The family lived in Cleland and the two babies died in 1903 and 1905. I was told today that St Patrick's cemetery didn't exist at that time, so my question is where would the babies have most likely been buried at that time? Or anyone else from Cleland ? Does anyone know what cemetery is closest?

Historically, Cleland was in the parish of Shotts, so they could be there. Stane Cemetery opened in 1902. Shottskirk cemetery opened in 1876 and Calderhead cemetery opened 1876. all 3 are in Shotts parish.
They may well be in Cambusnethan cemetery in Wishaw, that would be closer than Shotts. Unfortunately, the Cambusnethan records between 1901 and 1906 are missing but if you send the parents names, including the mother's maiden surname, I'll check for you.

Holytown cemetery opened in 1905. Airbles cemetery in Motherwell opened in 1905. The Globe cemetery in Motherwell opened in 1876.

All the records are at Motherwell Heritage Centre.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.

Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Hi Lodger, I found one of my names today. Mary Carroll who died in 1905 is buried in common ground in Wrangholm cemetery in New Stevenson. The Lady at Motherwell Heritage Centre also looked at other cemeteries but found no trace of John Carroll, who died 1/06/1903. He was just a baby. His parents were Thomas Carroll and Bridget Carroll, m/s Kelly, who lived in Cleland. Also looking for William Carroll who died 21/01/1961. He died in Hamilton. Searched records in South Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire, St Patricks, and St Josephs in Airdrie. No trace of him anywhere. Same parents as John and Mary. Grateful for any help. Thanks.

Nothing in Cambusnethan for a Carroll/Kelly combination, sorry.
