For all Personnel serving after 1920, their records are still with the MOD.
To obtain them, see:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

There will be a fee of £30.

in 1939 he was described as at school , as scouseboy says he seems a bit young for ww2 service unless it was right at the tail end of it .

From Wikipedia:

HMS Vengeance (R71) was a Colossus-class light aircraft carrier built for the Royal Navy during World War II. The carrier served in three navies during her career: the Royal Navy, the Royal Australian Navy (as HMAS Vengeance, from 1952 to 1955), and the Brazilian Navy (as Minas Gerais, from 1956 to 2001).

Constructed during World War II, Vengeance was one of the few ships in her class to be completed before the war's end, although she did not see any active service.

She, HMS Vengeance,   was in Alexandria   before the end of the war,    and was then deployed to the far east. If the war with Japan had continued she would have played an active part in operations there.
