I'm getting confused

Theodor GERTUM was a courier in 1871 ~ Class: RG10; Piece: 140; Folio: 21; Page: 40

He must have gone back to his old work as a courier after he was made bankrupt.

Comparing the signatures (13 years apart) I am sure that it's the same person:

I think so too, the 'GER' in the surname is almost identical

I suppose that I can be cautiously optimistic that this is the correct Charlotte but I will check around to see if I can find any other Charlottes with Obadiah as a father, none that I am aware of at the moment, so this is my most compelling link.

Such a shame that we can't find the 1861 to confirm and I had tentatively attached the 1841 Hove reference to Charlotte but again, could not be 100% sure.

It does not look like Charlotte and Theodor had any children? Did either of you spot any likely births in your hunt?

No I never spotted any likely births using GERTUM or GERDOM I'm afraid in the BMD indexes, I did check church registers for a baptism (BOTH CoE and NC) incase one slipped through with a variant spelling, nothing there either.
