Hello,

I'm really struggling to work out what is written on these records for my 2x Great Grandad's time in the military.

If anyone could be of help, I'd be really grateful!

Hhmm well the first one at the top is Ripon, Nottingham & Nottingham again.  Transfer to reserve seems to be miner, enlisted at Doncaster, arrived in UK on 16.11.18, port of arrival is Folkstone.

No 291163 and I'm guessing that his rank is Private. Name Herbert DOBSON

Unit & Corps - 702 Lab(our) Corps, then I think the next bit is B E 2 but not sure.

Authority - 19/ Rel 2076? / Abl? & Ab 554 (1) m? (No idea what this refers to)

Station - Ripon   Date - 25.11.18

That was my best interpretation of your first page.

Edit - om another page that you haven't put on here I can see Rank - Pioneer and Unit and Corps is 702 lab coy (company) R E 6th corps

Your second page I'm assuming you are trying to decipher the words in the columns.

Date looks like 25.1.17  A.C. (acting commander?) 3rd Lab Bn (Labour Battalion?)

Reporting one day late from leave absent from 6.15 am 8.1.17 to 6.15 am 9.1.17.  Forfeits 5 days pay. Forfeits 2 days pay RW (open? arrest)

Place - On service   Date - 25.1.17  Remarks - These don't mean anything to me as I am not an army buff

Your last page - his no., rank, name and corps have already been mentioned earlier.

The address is somewhat difficult to read but it looks like 85 Bulwell Lane? Old Bubford? (googling suggests Old Basford, Nottingham)

Employer is more difficult - I can see (-------) Coal & Iron co (------) Doncaster.  It looks like Askern but I can't be sure.  You may need to do some research on coal merchants to check that.

Can't make out what is under Doncaster can only see the date 21.4.18

Authority - 19/col? 2227 (initials?) 31/7/18

O.C. (Don't know what this is) - Lab. Centre (can't decipher), Ripon

Transfer to Class W for 4.12.1918    Date - 10.12.1918
