Australian Immigration of Family Members - William Cheyne
« on: Saturday 13 August 16 14:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'll preface this: I wasn't sure whether I should post this in the Scotland/Aberdeenshire forum, as that is where my family - myself included -  and the individual that I am trying to find is from or if I should post this in the Australia forum, as that is where he died and where his progeny still remain.

The individual I am attempting to find - I know him to be deceased - is William "Billy" Cheyne, the brother of my great grandmother Angeline "Jean" Jane Thain Cheyne. They had two further siblings, John "Jack" Cheyne and Doris Cheyne. I am led to believe that there were more sisters but I have yet to find evidence of them.
His parents were Mary-Bella Hastie and - I believe - John Gall Cheyne.

The birth and death dates of these immediate family members are as follows:

Mary-Bella Hastie - 21/06/1891 - 10/08/1981
John "Jack Cheyne - 29/09/1914 - 24/09/1984
Angeline "Jean" Cheyne - 08/02/1922 - 18/03/2004
Doris Cheyne - 1934 - 06/04/2016

I've been told that the family emigrated to Australia when this individual's son was around five years old, however, I don't have any dates for his son and he is still alive so I believe it would be against forum rules to share them even if I did have them.

I'm looking to find where he moved to, his wife's name and even just his birth and death dates. I'm somewhat stumped at the moment.

Thanks,
Carson

Putting "William Cheyne" and "Australia" into an index of people travelling to Australia came up with the following.

W. Cheyne born about 1899 - travelled to Australia 1928
W. Cheyne born about 1909 - travelled to Australia 1954
W. G. Cheyne born about 1939 - travelled to Australia 1954
W. Cheyne born about 1948 - travelled to Australia 1952

Perhaps the second and third ones are father and son? I am not able to see the actual entries themselves.

Your William seems to have been born William Hastie CHEYNE. Just did a quick search on SP and found his marriage to Lizzie Ann Cowe 1946 Aberdeen.

Try looking for his death here:

Good luck!

Wow!

Thanks everyone, this seems like some major finds. I'll take a proper look in the morning but thank you so much!
The "Hastie" does make it a good deal more likely, as you've said.

Thanks a bunch!
