Hello Jomot

Thanks, there was a fire on board and an explosion. I had found an account (extract and engraving attached), looking for Quarter Master J. Hood in a list, nothing found yet. There were wives and children on board too.

Regards Mark

I was just scrolling through early All Saints records looking for Caleb (didn't find him) & stumbled across this - it could be wishful thinking on my part but I read it as

Buried 12 Oct 1762 Margaret d/o William Hood, Cooper (page 9):

Looked to see if I could find any baptism, and familysearch has this:

Wow, quite an addition to your family history if the connection can be confirmed (yes, I know, that dreadful "if" !!)

Bit up market

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Toulon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Hood,_1st_Viscount_Hood

Thanks dobfarm

Looking for the list of casualties and Quarter Master J. Hood at the moment.

Lord Hood who brought the Commerce of Marseilles back from Toulon, must be a Captain. There was also an Alexander Hood.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Apologies, yes, it does say baptized in October 1762 - I obviously cant read my own handwriting ::)

I couldn't decide if it definitely said Hood though, or if I just think it does because I want it to!

Whilst I was typing dobfarm & Claire have just posted too.  Is the 1753/4 online?

Added: Just checked FS and there are several children of William Reed, so probably need to check these to see if they confirm him as a cooper, in which case its another one to scratch out  :(
