Ynyscynhaiarn baptism
« on: Monday 22 August 16 16:01 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone help me? I am looking for the baptism of a John Roberts at Ynyscynhaiarn church in 1863 or 1864. His father was also called John. Grateful of any help.

Thanks for your help Kay. I have found three which would match him in 1871 census but cant get any further. He married Ellen Griffith in Ynyscynhairan on 21/1/1882 and I know his father was John Roberts and that he was born 1863/64. Seeing that his wife was Maentwrog area originally I thought that they might have married in his local church?

I have John Roberts the son in 1891 census. He then lived in 21 Cornhill Porthmadog and I know this to be correct. There is a discrepancy with his age in this census but that did happen at times from what I understand?
John Roberts head 35 butcher Porthmadog
Ellen             wife   32              "   " ( even though I know she was born at Maentwrog)
Ann C Roberts dau 6   scholar
Robert G         son 4
John               son 2

Hi two things, why would they marry in "His church",  your other thread re marriage to Ellen Griffiths in 1882 has his occupation like his father John as a Labourer not Butcher, even though of course he may have changed his occupation?!

I must admit I had found that family but dismissed it because of the age difference.   I checked the marriage and they are both listed as of full age- John was a Labourer not a Butcher as Keyboard mentioned -  so where does his age come from - a later census?

i know from his death certificate that his occupation is " butcher master" ( yes that's how its stated) at 21 Cornhill Porthmadog. He died in 1900 aged 37 years. I'm sorry for my ignorance Keyboard regarding the church but couldn't see any other reason for them to be 4 miles outside Porthmadog getting married.

Thanks ger1.   It is unfortunate that his name is so common!
