Are you sure you have a copy of the actual marriage certificate for both the 1907 and 1929 marriages? Groom and bride had to sign it. I've compared the 1907 signature with the 1911 census signature - both for Sidney Whiston and would say that they are the same although the S at the beginning of Sydney is of a different style.

Have you compared the signatures on the marriage certificates for Sydney & Richard? You can also compare it to Sydney's signature on the 1911 census,

The marriage certificate doesn't have any signatures on it, I'm afraid.

Hi, I've seen the marriage certificate for Sydney and Mary online, and I ordered a copy of the marriage certificate for Sydney/Richard and Dorothy from the GRO (which is filled in by a registrar and doesn't feature any signatures)

I think the three Earnshaw/Sayers children born in Hay are likely to have been born to Dorothy, despite being registered with Mary's maiden name.

The youngest of them appears to have married for the first time in Brighton in 1958. I wonder whether one or more of the children born in Hay were with Dorothy's parents Percy and Mary Tompsett in Steyning in 1939 (their details would be redacted).

Thank you for all of your wonderful help, shall I look up Percy and Mary Tompsett on the 1939 census?

;D If you wish to spend money on a marriage certificate you already have then go ahead, if not purchase of any of the Earnshaw/Sayers birth certificates would possibly be an eye opener?!

The 1939 one, as I can follow that one through to Sussex.
