COMPLETED:"Purfield" in Muswellbrook
« on: Friday 02 September 16 13:32 BST (UK) »
I am interested in locating "Purfield" Muswellbrook. I believe it is a residence/property and not a suburb.

John and Grace Morrison are said to have lived at "Purfield" in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, in 1874.

I don't need any information on the folk themselves.

Nothing really interesting other than your website? There is however only one reference to THAT name on the NSW BDM's, perhaps some research or a probate file on this fellow.

Sands 1920-24 Mr Purfield J. Lamb's Road Gore Hill. Still only one record?
The name "Purfield" seems to have Irish roots, fits with Muswellbrook which had a lot of Irish migrants.

Neil, I don't have a website.

It isn't a surname I'm referring to and John and Grace were Scottish.

John and Grace were both deceased by 1923.

Jamjar, why not contact the local Council   https://muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au  and ask their Local History section?

In 1874, Purfield could have been a property in the area, or it could have been a house in town, as I'm sure you are aware.

If their Local History people don't know, your next avenue I would think is the NSW Lands Department (whatever it's called these days) to get someone to look at an old map.

Well I know Purfield is not a suburb, not a person but possibly named after ONE. It is unrecognisable to me and I know Muswellbrook fairly well.

Here's the website. http://www.fairhall.id.au/families/myline/g0/p267.htm

I was attempting to find a reason why something was named PURFIELD.

Thank you for information provided.

Yes, Dawn that would be the next logical step. Just thought I'd try our very knowledgeable group here first.

Neil the information on that website has been provided to the owner of the website by a group of the ancestors of John and Grace. I think that is where I saw 'Purfield' for the first time, last night. Yes, I too wonder why it was 'Purfield'.

JM I don't think James is mine and we definitely don't have a Peter. Have sent you a PM re transcription agent. I've just looked through my certificates and I can't see where I have purchased the death cert for Grace. There isn't one for John as his body was not found at time of death, but family member from another branch of the tree is attempting to get NSWBDM to record is death.

Added: I 1876 my GGrandmother's birth cert has her born at Killow Creek, Cassilis. I can't find it online.

In the 1923 will of Grace, she leaves her property at Balonne St, Narrabri to her daughter Bella.
