Thanks so much Louisa, yes i did try looking under Maskery - but no real clues were revealed.

Yes, it is quite probable that he was determined not to be tracked down. Sad, as he was only 33 in 1891 - when he left his wife and two young sons. I would love to know what he did with his life once he got to Yorkshire.

Perhaps his wife Catherine had already started up a relationship with the said John Shepherd (prior to 1891) - and so Allen bolted off to Yorkshire with a broken heart? So many possibilities of course.

Hopefully his two young sons (one of them my Great Grandfather) had a Father figure - in the shape of John Shepherd.

Thanks again . . .

It is sad when people just disappear, I have 2 in my family , where they have gone no one knows, I just cannot find then, the 1921 census might reveal something

He might be miss-transcribed on 1901 although I have looked

Don't give up on him, he might turn up at a later date when you least expect it

Thanks Louisa for your efforts.

Yes i will keep hunting.

I agree, the 1921 census might show up some results for Allen. I have started a count-down to 2021.

Good luck with your research too.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the information on James Maskery - 1861 census. I am pretty sure it is a correct match.

Unfortunately i cannot locate the census you refer to. I have checked with Ancestry.com and Find My Past - with no success. Do you have any tips on where i can locate that census form?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

Found JAMES MASHERY on Ancrusty

Went to 1861 census search page entered name as above.
He's the first of 14 results.
