Here's a maybe - Henry Thomas, a widowed cook (which matches with the above border crossing) died 20 Apr 1928 in Manhattan, parents John Thomas & Annie Owens - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2W1K-X7Y

Wow, it is fantastic how you have managed to piece together all this information, thhnk you.
Harry dying in a fire is just a story passed down through the generations, no proof I'm sorry.

Hello Tarnwater

I did a bit more poking around today and I checked the Maple Grove Cemetery where Henry Thomas was supposedly interred and surprise, surprise  they do not have a burial for him at their cemetery.  They indicated their records are well kept. His death record might indicate where he is buried.

You can order a death record for him from New York Department of Records. A genealogical copy is about $15.00 American and it gives name, age, ,birthplace, residence, place of death, names of parents and their birthplaces, place of burial and medical attendant. Anyone can order  the death certificate.  It looks like the death record previously posted from FamilySearch could be your chap.

I have seen Harry/Henry listed for various records although all records we have seen  have him listed as Harry. ??? ???

Moving onto his sister Annie  An***try has a  copy of a will for Annie Ovenden under New York, Wills and Probate Records 1659-1999.

There is also one for William  under New York, Wills And Probate Records For William Ovenden  Queens, Mixed Proceedings. Case #1087 1927.

I did see a mention for Harry Thomas on Annie's listing him as living at 13 West Ninth St., New York City. If I am reading things right looks like he was still living  ca 1927. Lots of legal jargon to wade through.

Another thing regarding Henry death record it has him as 61 years  looks to be out by 10 years. I guess it depends who the informant was  perhaps they did not know his age.

The only way  to know for sure is to send for a copy of the of the death certificate for Annie  Ovenden.

I believe there is a online form on the New York Department of Records.  It is a lot cheaper than
requesting BMD records in Canada.

The New York City Municipal Archives is where you would need to order the death records from - http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/archives/genealogy.shtml  The certificate numbers can be seen on http://italiangen.org/records-search/deaths.php
