Could someone help me identify this please

Hi all my Father found this near his home in Ireland
I would be grateful if someone could tell me what it is and which regiment it is from

How big is that ? - is it like a dog tag or something ? and - one more question well two really ! - did Dad find it in the ground? and what part of Ireland?

steve,it belongs to a seaforth highlander,i think its ww2 and after,mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.

Hi Annie & Mack it is approx 3 inches by 2 inches and was found on top of ground in a field nr Athlone Rep of Ireland.
I am presuming it is a plate from a bag or rucksack.
