tracing my scottish relatives
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 20:44 BST (UK) »
Trying to get some information on Scottish relatives who lived in various places in Scotland.  My fathers name was Robert Armour Galbraith birth around 1919.  His sisters both lived in the village of  Airth the names I knew them by was Auntie Peggy who lived at Graham Terrace opposite the church the other aunt I knew as Auntie Ina who lived in Elphinstone crescent. Appreciate any help.  You never know perhaps you might have met me as youngster when I used to travel up to visit then from London. Thank you.

If you are wanting to research your ancestors your father's birth registration in 1919 is on ScotlandsPeople.  Buying a few credits will allow you to download it which will give you his parent's names. That is if you don't have this already.

Do you have his marriage certificate?

crisane,

SP have a 100 yr "cut off" for births so the 1919 birth will only be on the index & will need to be ordered which can be done via the site by purchase of enough credits to cover the cost of £12.00bp

It will also cost an index fee initially to find it £0.23p then it can be ordered on site.
A total of 60 credits would be required.

Hi bakerm and welcome to rootschat as the others have said Scotland's People would be your best option ...Assuming his sisters were married you would need to know their married name ..You could maybe try contacting a local paper to see if any one remembers the family .Think it would be Falkirk Herald ..Good luck with your research

A death search for any female children is possible as women are indexed under both maiden & marital surnames.

If marital surname is unknown, search with maiden name & mother's maiden name.

As far as I know mother's maiden name(on death certificates) is only indexed after 1973.

Not sure about Ina , but Peggy could be Margaret.

There is a marriage for a Hughina Alexand(as much as can be entered) Galbraith / John Hay 1930 Airth Stirling.

Death Hughina Hay(other surname Galbraith) 1973 Airth Stirling , born c1910.

There are only 2 female Galbraith marriages in Airth Stirling(shire) , the other is -

Death Margaret Dick(other surname Galbraith) 1986 Airth Stirling , born c1922.
(Mother's maiden surname Alexander)

Not sure if this is any help - Someone with your father's name was b. Ecclesmachan, West Lothian, 1919. As others have said, you have to order the full cert. because of the 100 year rule.

Add - If he died in 1999 his date of birth was 15 Jan 1919.
