Divorce Records
« on: Friday 16 September 16 00:18 BST (UK) »
Can anyone point me in the right direction. I am seeking to location a divorce decree for a couple, in Liverpool, married in 1913 and, I believe, divorced approximately 1939.

With thanks

Either,   you can apply to the court at High Holborn,  HMCTS,  to search for the record,   but it can be quite expensive.

Hi stapler40

Divorce indexes upto 1937 are available on the Nationall Archives website.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/divorces/

After 1938 you have to apply to HMCTS for a 10 year search which costs £65 and if a record is found, they will send you a copy of the decree absolute which is an a4 sheet of paper with the names of the parties, the date of marriage, the date the decree nisi was made absolute and at which court. You won't get copies of the case papers.

Unless you require this for legal purposes, it is a very expensive sheet of paper with little in the way of genealogical information.
