Hi, yes it appears that a Charles Chapman was a creditor of Jacob Priggen and he received 5000 pounds - wow.  A few months later Jacobs wife died and left her estate to their son Jacob Carsten Priggen.  Do you happen to have any pictures of the refinery on 35 Glouscester Street or know where 31 Counting House would have been?  This Priggen line came from Scharmbeck, Hanover, Prussia.

Yes, standard German naming pattern for that time ... sons given two forenames, the first after their father, the second the one by which they were commonly known.
A lot of movement of sugar refinery employees ... there were some 25 locations in England, and 8 in Scotland, where sugar was refined. The Liverpool refineries attracted many men from London and from Greenock, whilst the port attracted them from all over, especially Hull, with the hope of passage to America.
A number of sugarhouses in Liverpool, though Henry Tate's, in Love Lane, did not become Tate & Lyle until 1921.
