Watkin Davies

Looking for a colleague's family-

Watkin Davies who was born about 1837 Denbigh according to 1881 census but I cant find him in the 1841 census in Denbigh when he should have been aged 4.

The family later moved to Stoke on Trent where they appear 1881.  Watkin had sons called Edward and Watkin.  By 1866 when Edward was born the family were in Hanley Stoke on Trent. 

Frustratingly the 1901 census shows Watkin born 1838 in Worxham which I think should be Wrexham.

Does anyone know of this family 1851/1861/1871/1891?

...Watkin Davies is not in Wrexham on the 1841 census.

This is a "maybe" for 1861 (based on his wife's place of birth = Oldham and the fact that I can't find him anywhere else!)

Many thanks Arranroots and others for this information, it always surprises me how people are willing to help each other on this excellent website.

The family certainly has grown with new additions that I wasnt aware of which I can now go back to his descendant with.  I wonder if Ross should read Rhos perhaps as Rhos on Sea or some other place, maybe GENUKI will give me some pointers under Denbighshire.

I was told that Davies could become Davis and that there was some differences as to where Watkin senior was born, at least I dont have to concentrate on Wrexham thanks to JSL.  Now to find the marriage of Watkin Davies to Mary Ann b. Oldham probably going off Edwards DOB 1866, it must be just before that date.

FreeBMD playing up recently didnt help.

That's odd - 1881 census states his wife Mary Ann was born in Rhyl
1871 census says she was born in Oldham?

Maybe she was living in Rhyl in 1881 or do we have the right person?
Certainly the family looks to be right.

Rhyl is on the North Wales coast and so is Rhos on Sea.

Genuki offers a no. of towns begining Ross -
Rhos on Sea - see Llandrillo-yn-Rhos.

And also -
Rhosddu, Rhosllanerchrugog, Rhosymedre and Rossett and all thses are in the Union of Wrexham!
