Hi Gareth

Double checked 1871 for you and the entry definitely says Oldham Lancaster

You do come across cases of places of birth being given incorrectly by a husband and later the widow will give it much more accurately!

For each census there are about 8 Watkin DAVI(E)S in England, and only one or two of about the right age.  I did check all of them.

I see that in 1901 she says Dyserth (given as Dysart) which is near Rhyl.

Another possibility, which I have come across in my own tree, is that Watkin had two wives, both named Mary Ann.

If you can find births for their children and obtain certs pre and post 1881 (!!) it would sort that out.

No, I wouldn't either!!  ;D

;)
