Useful info, Jebber - I was wondering what would happen if you stop paying subs, and can't find any info about that on TP website.
My tree has about 500 photos, so I would need premium subscription at least. But don't know how long I can afford to pay that. I'm not going to be here forever (thank goodness  ;D) and wouldn't like all that info to be lost in the ethernet.
Do you know whether, if I stopped paying, my family would also still be able to access the tree ?

With the free version anyone you give the password to can view it.
I believe if your sub runs out they limit the number of photos you can view. In other words your paid site becomes a free site.

I have never paid a subscription to Tribal Pages, so have not had to concern myself with how many photos I could have.  It is just useful for giving others access to my tree if I wish.

I would never rely on an on line tree, much better to have a family history programme on your own computer, I keep mine backed up on multiple a memory sticks, an  external hard drive and cloud. You could also do any of these things and still have a tree on Tribal Pages.

You can also purchase from Tribalpages a DVD or flashdrive of your tree. It will be the same as the online version to view but you will not be able to do anything to it. A "permanent" record. You could of course print off the pages of your tree ::) :)

I agree, Jebber - would much rather just keep the tree on my computer - regularly backed up, of course  ;D. But our family is spread across four continents and they can't access it - or add info etc etc. Some have Macs, so can't read my software anyway.
So the only solution is to put it online and limit access to our family.
It's going to be a big job though - gedcoms don't include the pics, so they're all going to have to be re-attached in the online tree.
Still can't decide which website though .... subscription ? or uncomfy layout ?

I've been looking at Tribal Pages, and wondered how you upload sources onto the tree?

Do you upload one family line at a time or is it just one file as I would like to include my grandparents lines. Was hoping to use the free subscription for this.  Many thanks  :)

You can have a tree on Tribal Pages without having to pay a subscription, it is private unless you invite someone to view it, you have to give them a password for them to gain access.

Would recommend Tribal Pages, I have a 'partial' tree on there.

Easy to set up, easy to navigate, simple & effective.

This thread has spurred me on to put a limited access tree online for when I shuffle....

A distant cousin in Canada has a 'My Heritage' tree. Just wondered if anyone had comments or a comparison to make between TP & MH?
