I managed to get a copy of the book "Westside Echoes" which contains a bunch of info (beside others) about the Kratchmer family. There is written that Peter Krat(s)chmer and his wife Catherine (Herbst) came to Canada in 1910. They at that time had 4 children already: Joseph (* 1901), Mary (Sr. Angeline), Madeline (Sr. Catherine, * 1908) and Simon. Nick and Laura (* 1912, twins), Frank (* ?), Peter (* ?) and George John (* 1920) were born in Canada.
When Sr. Catherine was still alive she didn't have an exact rememberance of date and place of entry into Canada.
My greatgrandmother Elisabeth Herbst was a sister to Catherine Herbst. Their parents were Franz (or Frank) Herbst and Johanna Gruenewald. They lived in Kronental, Crimea.
My ggm and also Catherine married boys from the Kratschmer family. Elisabeth, with the brother of Peter (possibly Michael) had two children when he passed away. As a widow she married my ggf Peter Wolf.
So I would be interested if there are documents or any propagated information available to find out a) from where in Austria the Kratschmers first came to Russia and b) where the Kratschmers lived in South Russia.
Who is the father of Peter Kratchmer that You mentiones? The book tells about a Peter born in 1933 being son of Joe Kratchmer.
