Butler Help Please
« on: Monday 26 September 16 15:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace more information on my relative John Francis Augustus Butler Born 1825
I have his later life in Southampton where he died in 1874 but his birth is stated as Carmarthen, Wales in 1825.
His father was Augustus Butler but have no further information on this chap

Cheers

Chris

Hi just come across this thread, would I be correct that his occupation was that of a Plumber married to a Mary living in 1861/71 Southampton, if so under what name/s did he marry her and when?

Is this the newly married couple in 1851 census:-

John Butler 27 occ Plumber & Glazier b Southampton
Mary 27 b Rotherhithe, Surrey
Harry 1 b Southampton
Residing at 50, Melbourne Street, Southampton
Census Ref HO107/1669/349/10

Birth Harry John Butler March qtr 1850 Southampton v7 page 241
EDIT Death Henry John Butler Sept qtr 1851 Southampton v7 page 153
This is the Street where the family were living in 1871 census.

EDIT OK marriage was 28th February 1847 John Butler to Mary Hollick Father Augustus Butler and George Hollick

Pelly/Pelley/Kingsbury/Challis/Nalder/Rochester/Raydenbow

Hi,

Yes that's the chap and all information correct.
1851 census states a Southampton birth but all subsequent census state Wales / Camarthen.
No record of his birth anywhere and only record I can find of Augustus was on the marriage certificate you refer to

Thanks
