Holiday snaps 1 - Lancashire coast?
« on: Wednesday 05 October 16 04:54 BST (UK) »
Snap of my mum and me enjoying the beach. It would have been taken in 1952 and I think it would have been in or around Lancashire. The stonework may be recognisable to a sharpeyed person. All suggestions welcome.

What is it above the fence on the left? A long row of swings? A primitive rollercoaster? A sewage pipe?

From memory (without  searching, yet)    I would propose Southport.

There is a Miniature Lakeside railway  near the Marine lake at Southport  and that style of concrete fencing is used in that area of the resort.

It may be part of the Pier.

I live in Southport and it doesn't look like any of the present walls by the beach. The miniature railway was quite a way from the beach edge even in the 50s. The angle to the pier if that is what in the background looks wrong too. However I have access to a lot of old photos of the area so will have a look at them over the weekend.

Looks like an over head tram structure - are those railings not in the Bispham area - ???

Sandra

Can't find a section of fencing nearer the beach area - but this is the type of fencing in that area in the 1950's - although this is more recent than that.

I decided to through the photos so far done 2 boxes and a large album.there only seems to be one area which would give the right angle for the photo but I don't think the concrete fencing is right for the area but I will check it tomorrow if I have time.

Added20.10 now been through a box of Southport PCs with no success.
