Marriage Frances Gittins and Joseph Wenyon
« on: Sunday 24 July 05 10:56 BST (UK) »
Frances Gittins married Joseph Wenyon prior to his departure for South Africa.
Frances lived with her parents John and Eliza at Egerton, Wrexham. She had sisters Sarah,Emily and Anne.I cant find the record of their marriage anywhere.
They were Wesleyan Methodists.Any ideas where they may have married, asuming it was Wrexham.

You have been a little brief with the information provided. Can you not provide a clue as to the year they were married and where you have looked for their marriage;I'm assuming it is FreeBMD and North Wales BMD,but you don't say.

Hi there,

Have had a look at thFreeBMD and North Wales BMD sites.Their marriage does not seem to have been transcribed yet.

Have you tried a pay per view site?.May be worth searching the following;

www.1837online.com  or

www.ancestry.co.uk

Also, have a look at the following. It will give you details of what non-conformist chapels were in Wrexham and what records exist and where they are held.

www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/wrexham

Good luck.  :) :) :)

Do you know if Joseph Wenyon was a minister of the Church, i.e. a reverend?

It is such a long time since your original message and I have lost the thread of the search.  In 1891, Frances Wenyon was a widow living in Chester Street with her mother and her daughter, also Frances who was born in South Africa, in Durban.  I must have found a reference somewhere to Joseph but I cannot bring it to mind.  I will have another look and see what I can find.

I have looked through the marriage index from 1881 to 1883 inclusive and there is no Wenyon.
Perhaps they were married on board ship or in South Africa or maybe the name was mistranscribed.

sorry

Peterej thanks for looking.I think you are right it may have been mistranscribed.I do know they were married before they left for SA as I have a letter referring to Frances as his wife, asking permission from the church for her to join him.
I shall keep looking.
