Hi cristeen

Sorry, just seen that you had posted the possibility of St Bernard Place  :P Been trying to find anything on St Bernard Place and it seems to have only a few entries in the directories of the time. Likely a tenement going by photos of it the early 20thC.

I don't really know Edinburgh and don't have any resources like trade directories. I just did some googling and looked at the old maps on NLS so I am probably barking up the wrong tree :)

Agree with Monica, a name would be a great help?

Depending on when death occurred we may locate him on 1841 census?

Somewhere I saw a list of old/defunct street names that have been replaced with new ones but I can't remember the url.

I've looked at some of the old plans from NLS but haven't found anything like this so far.

From the newly free access to Scotlands Places, there is this:

Re St Bernard Place www.rootschat.com/links/01inj/

Place names from the 1850s for the parish of St Cuthberts www.rootschat.com/links/01ink/  This might bring up further options.

Some of the places (Boswell's Court, Livingston's Close) mentioned are off the High Street in Edinburgh, but while George Street is within walking distance, it is still over the other side of the railway.

What is this document, please?  It looks like a burial register.  If we knew the parish, the possible streets might be more recognizable.

St Bernard's Place is now Saunders St in Stockbridge, a reasonable distance from the High Street.

Richmond place was in the Pleasance area of the city.

Is the interposed line Crosscausey on the South side?

The place in question - Bristo Place?  It seems to sit in amongst the other streets?

Hi 4H:

I've been pondering over the occupation word and lean to it being - Gardener.

If possible, would you post an image showing the full width of the Occupation column along with a few entries above and below the one in question.

Hi to all,
Ive exhausted that avenue Monica but thanks anyway. I think I'll put this one on the shelf for
the time being and maybe something may pop up when looking for something else.
